Family Unity

Family Holidays are a great way to rejuvenate the family union. Today’s home-life reinforces a detached and isolated lifestyle where family members fail to communicate, essentially becoming strangers under the same roof. In taking a family holiday, everyone has an opportunity to re-kindle their relationships or even discover characteristics and interests about each other which may inspire respect and understanding.

Unfortunately, like anything else, there are often a number of downsides to family holidays. These usually pertain to pre-teen and teenage family members who often have invested interests which bind them to the home. Luxuries such as email, telephone, video games and television often have a strong hold on this age group and they are usually reluctant to leave them behind for some bonding time with their families.

Because of this, family holidays should be planned together as a unit so that each member is validated in the decisions being made. Each person should be assured that they will be doing something on their holiday which interests them and gives them an opportunity to share a part of themselves with their families. If decisions are made properly and with consideration, family holidays can do wonders for family unity.
